SoDi – Supporting the Implementation of the European Industrial Deal with Strengthened Social Dialogue in European Metal Sector

The event brought together participants to exchange knowledge and experiences on the key challenges and opportunities in the European metal sector, with a strong focus on the green and digital transition.
Throughout the sessions, major challenges were addressed, including high energy costs, global competition, market volatility, rapid technological change, and workforce shortages. Case studies and best practices were also presented, showcasing how different stakeholders are responding to these transformations.
Through interactive discussions, participants identified essential success factors for a smooth transition, highlighting the importance of inclusive social dialogue, investment in reskilling and upskilling, access to financing, cooperation among key actors, and support for small and medium-sized enterprises. The need to link competitiveness with quality jobs and ensure a just transition for workers was also emphasized.
The event provided space to share both workers’ and employers’ perspectives, reinforcing the value of mutual understanding and collaboration. Finally, future steps were outlined to strengthen social dialogue and develop strategic proposals at the European level to support a sustainable transition in the sector.
